Another day, another cake.....

Well it feels like that even if it has been well over a week since I made the last one.

Todays is a simple cake for a little girls birthday this weekend. Who knew a fondant bow would cause me so much consternation......

A nice simple cake. Nerve wracking piping with black icing which marks where it touches but thankfully it all went OK. :)

I was under the impression this was Kitty White but a hardcore Hello Kitty fan informs me this is actually Mimmy her twin sister. Since I am still engrossed in the world of Disney Princesses I had no idea. Still I rather like to be different ;)

St Swithin's Day

So today was 15th July, the feast day of St Swithin.

"St. Swithin's Day, if thou dost rain,
For 40 days it will remain;
St. Swithin's Day, if thou be fair,
For 40 days will rain nea mair."

This gorgeous view, long overdue, was overhead all day. Does this bode well for the next 40 days? It had better or the Jet stream will have me to answer to.

My poor brassicas :( Ignore the weeds, its just been too wet to get out there much and sad to say the slugs are winning the battle. Meh.

On the positive side look at these wee beauties. My cheap as chips apple tree from Aldi has it's first babies. OK these few won't keep us going long but least it pollinated, unlike the other apple tree in the garden and my poor courgette plants.

Whilst looking forlornly at my broccoli I noticed these wild strawberries nestled in amongst my overgrown, non fruit producing raspberries. These plants seeded themselves in my garden from next door, who I think got them self seeded from the school at the end of our gardens. Not bad for free, although don't get your hopes up for a pavlova any time soon ;)

Whilst this summer is certainly turning into a wash out but I am reminded of the old adage......there's no such thing as bad weather, only the wrong clothes.......

Snow White

Its coming up to Pup2's birthday. Which means birthday cake time. Having flicked through this book Pup2 decided that she wanted Snow White. Who am I to argue?

Rustic Cottage

One wicked stepmorther, complete with facial wart.

Snow White. Fear not both her and wicked step mother have eyes but needed to let the fondant icing skin over before drawing them on.

Who wouldn't want to live in a lovely little cottage like this?!

She even has a little storage shed on the side. Perfect for storing the Seven Dwarves work tools.

Ah the infamous poison apple. Thankfully this entire cake is edible :) The only poison is likely to be a sugar rush ;)

I am really pleased with how the cake turned out. My fab mum gave me assistance, she helped make the house (she's better at plonking on icing than me and I am better at the modelling) and Pup2 is highly excited with her cake. Remind me though never to work with black fondant icing.......it's hideous stuff, sticky and soft. Quite unlike the other ready coloured blocks of icing.

Now if the Universe could see fit to send me Chris Hemsworth from the film Snow White and the Huntsman I'd be one very happy mummy ;)

Burn baby, burn.

In case you've completely missed it there have been lots of people running the streets with a flaming heavy torch. Since the Pups have been having an Olympics week at school and it co-incided with the arrival of the Olympic torch it was close enough to go along and have a gander.
Actually it was really lovely to see so many of the local community out in the sunshine. Whether you think the relay (and indeed the Olympics) are a massive waste of money and resources I can honestly say the Pups enjoyed it so for that alone it was worth the 5 minute walk down.
Should have brought the marshmallows with me.

After watching all that running (which was quite frankly exhausting) it was time to retire home for something to restore the spirits.

I may have overdone the whipped cream a little. Oh well. The more the merrier I say ;)
