It's all in the details.

When we mooched in Corsham a couple of weeks ago I got to indulge in my favourite pastime of drooling over old buildings. I (not so) secretly yearn to live in an ancient cottage or Georgian house. Sadly my house (as lovely as it is) is about a decade old. Which means I have to look on with a tinge of envy at other peoples who do live in them.
Grandeur. Without being too OTT.

I love the quirkiness :)

I love this. My pups would not for fear of all the heinous beasties that might lurk within the bush and I myself am far to lazy to maintain something like this. But I still like it.

This would do me nicely.

But best of all was this door.
Such a fabulous colour. The majestic door knocker (I mean its a lion for goodness sakes) and lovely shiny letter box.
The stone work. The windows. For some reason modern housing just lacks that finesse that these gorgeous old buildings hold.
It's all in the details for me :)

A Walk

Last weekend it was Mother's Day. What better way to celebrate than a walk with the offspring, human and canine. Weather was delightful, warm but not too hot. We decided to go for a gentle amble at Corsham Court.
The Church at Corsham

Just love clouds :)

The boys :)

The was one of four geese who kept having a kerfuffle. Such high tension for a Sunday morning.

Crows. I love crows. Know they're not the prettiest of birds but I love that they're all black.

Corsham Court. Whose grounds we walked around. Nice pile of bricks.

I had a card from the pups with various messages of love and affection scrawled inside and a happy walk around the lake. Who needs big grand gestures when the simple things in life will do.

Oh what a perfect pear

Those people that know me well know that I don't eat much fruit. Apples, bananas and at a push red seedless grapes. I know I should eat more fruit and I adore the taste of oranges for example but its the flesh that makes me gag. But cooking fruit in a cake must be surely a better way of getting my 5 a day no?
Four rapidly over ripening conference pears needed using or throwing in the bin. So a quick Google and found a recipe for pear and chocolate cake. I was sold.

Recipe called for blanched hazelnuts which were then ground. No way could I be bothered with that faff so ground almonds had to do. And very acceptable they were too.

Heaven on a plate.

Now not sure I am ever going to embrace proper fruit cake or even carrot cake (sorry I just can't get behind that concept LOL) but is a decidedly good way for me to use up the pears I bought to be virtuous and then promptly ignored ;)
